The Hidden Danger of a Disconnected Bathroom Exhaust Fan
During an attic inspection, finding a bathroom exhaust fan duct disconnected or terminating directly inside the attic space is a major flag.
When warm, humid air from showers is dumped directly into an unheated attic, moisture condenses on cold roof sheathing and rafters. Over time, this leads to widespread mold growth, wood rot, reduced insulation performance, and premature roof deck failure.
Bathroom fans must always exhaust completely to the exterior of the home through an approved wall cap or roof vent.
