A deck might look perfectly secure, but what happens when an important structural connection is missing?
During deck inspections, missing structural fasteners in joist hangers, ledger boards, or post connectors are a critical safety flag.
Building codes require approved structural connector nails or lag screws in every designated hanger hole. Substituting drywall screws or leaving holes empty significantly reduces load capacity. When a deck is loaded with people or heavy snow, compromised hangers can shear, leading to partial or complete deck collapse.
